As most of you know, I copped an iPhone on Black Fridee (of all days). Here is my unofficial review. It's mostly for Wade, but I was going to do this anyway. Here's your tour of a glimpse of the Dark Side:
Cons: Always take the bad news first
- No good vibrate feature. I'm huge on this because I hate ringtones or any stock rings that come with phones. It only vibrates twice, not continually during the called received or the text. Motorola phones were DOPE at this and I got spoiled. And it's a rather weak vibrate.
- Battery. This is somewhat contrived because on phones like these, you're always on them. Calls, texts, games, other apps, etc. They'll all drain the battery. If I continually fuck around w/ it all day, it'll be dead by the end of the day (keep in mind though, this happened to me after almost a 24 hour period).
- Bluetooth. This phone wasn't pre-programmed with any voice dialing software, and I can't find any to add. This isn't that big a deal, but it's nice to be able to tell the phone to call someone. Again, something I got hooked on w/ VZW and Motorola.
- Customization. This can be fixed, but I wish you could just set up icon sets w/o having to jailbreak the phone. Or even change the regular background, and not just the unlock screen. Fort showed me what is capable w/ breaking the phone open and I'm jealous as fuck.
- Stability. This is debatable. I expected SOME issues, only because it really is a computer, and if you put somewhat sketchy software on a computer you're going to run into issues. This has only happened once, however, I'll have patience and keep it moving.
- Video. None. Somewhat of an issue, I took 4 videos w/ my phone before this one in a 2 year time span. Doubtful I'll miss it, however, it would be cool to take a video and then upload it directly to YouTube.
Pros: Told you it's worth the wait
- Seamlessness. I'm now a Crapple person, therefore this was a no brainer. But take this one w/ a grain of salt if you don't own a Mac.
- Userfriendliness. It's a simple phone, like REAL simple. The interface is top notch to me, especially the touchscreen. Lots of people don't like this and I can't figure out why. Adding contacts, editing, adding applications, it's all simple as hell. And Apple didn't let AT&T botch the OS with a bunch of shit that Verizon would have. WTF do I need "Get It Now" when I can get anything through iTunes, 3G and WiFi?
- WiFi. Now I understand why people like this so much. When I'm here at the house, it's always connected to my network. I get apps quicker, check Facebook, etc. all w/ similar speeds of my laptop. Only thing that slows it down is the processor, however, we're comparing a 5" "computer" with a laptop here.
- Applications. This stuff just takes the phone to another level. There are so many things out there that I don't know what to download. All I do is read about what's what and then play around w/ whatever I put on the phone. It's a must for bathroom trips now
That's all that has come to mind as of now. I haven't had any service issues yet, which is good, but I am somewhat expecting them. I'm in a new "free" circle, but that's what texts are for. So Shad, Wade, New Michelle, and everyone else that's on VZW, you'll be getting texts from me more frequently. It's a win/win situation.
Hope this helps to those that are reading, even though it's pretty much directed at one person, haha.
Someone dropped a reference to this on SOHH today and had me in tears:
