So, this was the weekend to NYC, Long Island to be more specific. Never been out that way before, as I have been to or at least through most if not all of the boroughs. For those that know, Mary Taylor (yes Wade, you can start smiling now) was getting married this weekend. Mary's been like a cousin, as her father and mine grew up together and we were born only a year apart. I couldn't be happier for her. It's always fresh to see a friend or relative find that special person, especially if you've seen them date others and have it not work out. However, Pete seems like a cool cat, so it's good that he'll be around w/ us for all of our "family" get togethers.
Now, onto the wedding. This was probably one of the nicest weddings I had been to. No I did not cop my camera before leaving, however, there will be pictures within a few weeks. Long Island is a real dope suburb of NYC, very similar to many 'burbs of major cities. Took place a clubhouse of a country club in Nassau County. It seemed that no expense was spared. Tons of people and tons of food/drink for everyone. Those LI Italians know how to do it! Rather extravagant place, hell the appetizers were more than enough, everything from bruschetto (spelling, big time) to most vegetables imaginable. You can guess dinner was crazy, from a smoked pig, to duck wraps, to pastas w/ calamari, shrimp, scallops, beef. It was like they looked at the menu and just said "Okay."
Oh and the drinks. Usually, an open bar ends at dinner. Nope. The servers kept bringin' us drinks at our tables! Well, I get tip happy the more I drink, so I was sure to take care of that girl, I cannot remember her name. I do remember apologizing when she said she was from Ohio. :o So the gin and tonic flowed from the heavens and needless to say, I got pretty hammered. After much dancing and celebrating, we went off to the after party back at the hotel. More drinks, more yelling, more dancing. GREAT time. I had to call it quits however. A bit too much for me after some Jaeger Bombs, and I was off to the room. You'd be proud however, I didn't get sick, but I did spend the night on the bathroom floor of my room. I found my little piece of heaven on a cold, tile floor. Fuck what you heard, that shit is comfy at that state. Oh and Wade, you can start laughing more, I would've had sex w/ a particular someone, no names, you can guess though. :o
One of the things that I've been paying more attention to as of late with people my age getting married, is the music that's played. I have created a ban list of songs NOT to be played at my wedding, which is ever growing, but here's a piece:
"Chicken Dance" "Celebrate" "Macarena" "Play That Funky Music White Boy" "YMCA"
There's more, but you get the idea. But, Mary and Pete did it right, that was some of the best music I had heard at a wedding EVER, and it was from a live band to boot. And there was no pretentious wedding planner trying to get everyone to dance. Have you ever seen this?
So, public shoutouts go to Mary and Pete. I thank you guys for everything and wish you nothing but the best (sorry to be cliche'd on that one).
The second half of the weekend is the part that didn't go as planned. I went w/ my parents up there and Saturday was their anniversary. We had plans to go visit Scott in NYC and he was going to take them out for the night, dinner, dancing, the whole nine. However, due to an emergency, that fell through. So, we left to head back to PA on Saturday. Shame, I really would've liked something special for them. We ended up back in PA at Ventura's Bar in Fairfield. Happy anniversary! But, at least the company was good, that's what's important.
Saturday was also my day to catch up w/ Mehul, but that fell through due to work. Understandable, that man saves peoples lives. I can't stand in the way of that. But, I also was going to chill w/ Shiggs and 40 up in NYC. Shiggs had an RSVP slated for an event on Saturday night in downtown. So public apologies to the Fish, but like 40 said, the summer just started, we've got time to get up.
Oh and just wanted to say Happy Birthday to Pops. He's 60 today, and we surprised him w/ his gift at the wedding, around all of his friends. He couldn't have been happier.
Sorry for the long one, no homo.
At least I didn't run into the "FROM WHERE?!?" response from NYC'ers this weekend. This is fitting:
